Jos is an artist based near Queenstown, New Zealand. By layering generous unfolding brush-strokes, her abstract artworks explore the intermingling of conscious and subconscious thoughts and emotions. Creating a fusion of floating space and movement, she invites the viewer to discover these subtle singular moments revealed through a vibrant fusion of collided strokes and shrouded botanical forms.

Her process of intermixing and layering mediums reveal its own ever-evolving journey, capturing a vivid layering of sentiment in every brushstroke. It reveals itself as the emotions that we let play inside us, our thoughts captured in time, the spaces our minds are drawn too, and the unseen paths they take to get us there.

Drawing inspiration for her artworks from her own experiences, the scenery and the natural world around her. She paints mostly in acrylics and oils, and loves to inject other mediums like transparent inks, foils, metallics, pearlescent and iridescent colours into her paintings.

Born and raised in New Zealand, Jos lived the majority of her childhood in the quaint fishing town of Riverton on the rugged southern coast of the lower South Island. Throughout her childhood and into her earlier adult years she regularly painted, studied art, began exhibiting her artwork as a teenager.

As a young adult, Jos trained and worked as a graphic artist/illustrator for several years before travelling overseas. Returning to live in Christchurch, New Zealand, she worked as a graphic designer/illustrator in the advertising and newspaper industry. A highlight during this time was when her design work was awarded a ADA advertising industry award in 2003.

In 2004, Jos moved to Queenstown and started her own graphic design studio, building a portfolio of varied and loyal clients from around New Zealand and Australia. In 2016, she decided to focus her creativity back to her first love of painting. And today, she divides her time between painting and designing in her studio in Gibbston.
